Live fill levels
for an airport
Connected waste bins that show operations teams which bins need emptying — right now. Custom electronics, embedded Linux, cloud and an operations app, from one team.
Emptying bins by schedule,
not by need
Airport waste teams worked fixed rounds, so some bins overflowed at peak hours while others were emptied half-full.
Operations needed to see, in real time, which bins actually needed attention — with hardware robust enough for a busy public terminal and unobtrusive enough to disappear into it.
How we built it,
phase by phase
Device, firmware, cloud and app were designed together, so the data the crews see is the data the hardware was built to capture.
An architecture from bin to dashboard
Fill-level sensing, connectivity and power were chosen together with the cloud architecture, edge to cloud.
Custom electronics on embedded Linux
A custom board running embedded Linux, giving the bins on-device processing and a secure, updatable platform.
Hardware for a public terminal
Electronics integrated into the bin and built for round-the-clock use in a high-traffic space.
An app crews actually use
Real-time fill levels in the cloud and an operations app, so teams go to the bins that need them.
In the field

From embedded Linux on-device to the cloud and app layer, SOFTT delivered a complete product architecture we could confidently deploy in high-traffic airport operations.
